At its meeting on Monday 10 August 2015, the City of Charles Sturt Council approved the transfer of ownership of the Bowden Brompton Community Centre (land and buildings) to the City of Charles Sturt. This means the Community Centre will be a Council owned, managed and operated community centre and can continue to provide services to the community. This is a great outcome after many months of uncertainty.
Council staff will be advising the timeframe of when the Centre’s building will be closed for renovations. However, it is likely the building will be closed until at least the end of March 2016.
The Community Shed will be finished over a timeframe still be announced by the City of Charles Sturt, but be assured this great resource is a high priority for them.
Enquiries regarding use of the Community Centre and/or the Community Shed should be made to Cheryle Gray, Team Leader: Community Development at the City of Charles Sturt: http://www.charlessturt.sa.gov.au/contact
On behalf of the Bowden Brompton Community Group Inc Management Committee I want to thank all who have had involvement with the Community Centre during its many years (almost 40!) of independent operation. To our members, thanks for your support and for making the necessary hard decisions which have ensured a future for the Community Centre. I have no doubt at all that the City of Charles Sturt will bring about a renewal of programs and buildings to facilitate an innovative and active Community Centre for this community.
The Management Committee will now work on the requirements to wind-up the Association, and hopes to have this completed by the end of the year.
Chair: Management Committee, Bowden Brompton Community Group Inc
